One of the hottest trends in house designs these days is the addition of a home entertainment room that features luxurious sound systems and large LCD screens. These areas are different from an ordinary family room since they do not require windows or natural sources of light.
You can have many locations in the house that can be ideal as your entertainment centre. However, if you feel that you do not have the space in the basement or living room, then consider remodelling your attic as the entertainment room.
Check if your attic has an appropriate space and height to accommodate guests. It should have sufficient headroom between the floor and the roof that can fit at least a 6-foot-tall adult. Do not forget to inspect if the roof has no holes, and if there are any, be sure to ask help to fix it. Another important thing is to determine the length and width of the attic entertainment room. The length should be at least 15 feet and the width should be no less than 15 feet. With these dimensions, your entertainment area can accommodate eight guests.
Assess the placement of the attic HVAC equipment in your entertainment room. Set up logistics for bringing furniture up into the loft, and ensure that stairways and doorways are big enough to fit couches and chairs. Consider verifying other elements such as insulation, electrical wiring and the roofing of your attic. Finalise your entertainment room design with carpeted floors and soundproofing, and place lighting to create a theatre ambience. Lastly, put other features like dividers and shelves for extra storage of your entertainment materials.
